Over the last year, Jordan has been slowing down, losing weight, and quieting down, but today she fell and ultimately was not able to make it up the stairs. After much heartache, we decided to take her in and free her from the cancer in her body.

Kenzie cried and asked if she could go with us. She and I sat on the couch. I explained in detail what would happen every step of the way, then I asked if she still wanted to go. She did. Jackie came over to watch Mason, who wasn't quite able to figure out what was going on. Cindy carried Jordan down the stairs, placed her in the car, and we set off to the clinic. Luckily, there were no other people there and they were able to take us immediately. We went into the same room where Bailey was put down.

The technician came in to chat, then to take Jordan to the back to put a line in her leg. Instead of going cooperatively, Jordan stood in defiance between Cindy and me, forcing the tech to go get a leash. When she came back, Jordan was shaking terribly, and we all were nervous. After not too long the vet came in. Her first words were all we needed to hear, "you've come in at exactly the right time for Jordan. You didn't come too soon, and you didn't wait too long." Then she reminded us that she was the one who was with us when we brought Bailey in. She was amazing and helped us through it. All the while, Kenzie sat 100% attentive, asking questions and taking it all in. After the doctor explained what would happen I told Kenzie that she had been very brave and I would go sit with her in the waiting room if she wanted. "No," she said, "I want to be here." She never wavered from that.

We all got on the floor with Jordan, who was on a pink fuzzy blanket. Kenzie was in the middle, petting her head the entire time. As she went to sleep, tears streamed down all our cheeks, and Kenzie gave Jordan a kiss on the head. We stayed for a while, then Kenzie grabbed Jordan's collar and we walked out. I am so amazed by her bravery through all this.
